Acer Aspire S13 review: slim and lightweight notebook
The Acer Aspire S13 weighs 1.3kg and is 14.6 mm thick, it comes with an Intel Core i5 dual core 2.3GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and a touch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Acer Aspire S13 – Black Edition
Acer’s new addition is as thin, fast and comfortable as its rivals. In fact, the autonomy of the S13 is even better than most of them with a claimed battery life of 13 hours but realistically it will last about 7-10 hours depending on the type of usage. This means it’s battery life is almost as good as the one on the Macbook Air but bearing in mind that the Aspire 13 has better screen resolution.
Let us also mention something we had never seen before. In its white matte aluminium finish, the S13 is absolutely not subject to fingerprints. And where most manufacturers protect their touch screens with mirror-like coatings, the Acer is entitled to an anti-reflective coating. Note that the model in black finish is not as insensitive to the fingerprints, which is not surprising.

One other factor which adds to the qualities of the Aspire 13 is the Dolby stamped speakers which are simply excellent for a notebook of this size. The volume is quite high and the mediums remarkably clear. One thing to mention however is that the bass is average and the sound is substantially muffled if the machine is placed on your laps since the speakers are located under the chassis.
Now this doesn’t make the Acer S13 a perfect machine. Some of it’s fallbacks include the keyboard which has shallow keys, this should’t effect general typing but it might be uncomfortable if you are typing for a very long time. Additionally the touchpad is overly sensitive which can lead to unwanted clicks and finally it boosts a 6th generation Core processor while the 7th Generation is available, which is actually not a big difference. If you can ignore these few inconveniences the S13 remains a sure choice and what’s even better is that it’s on sale now on Amazon reduced from £699.99 to £490 a staggering 30% off.
