Nintendo Confirms Mario movie with ‘Minions’ studio

Here we go!  This time it’s official. After a lot of speculation in recent years, without Nintendo completely confirming it, the Kyoto firm announced on twitter that an animated Mario movie was in preparation. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario gaming series has partnered with Illumination Studios to produce the movie.

Fans still haven’t forgotten the 1993 Mario movie

The new animated movie hopes to make fans forget about the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie which was very disappointing to say the least. This time there are few reassuring elements, starting with the people responsible, Mario’s creator himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, is involved, as is Chris Meledandri, founder and president of the American studio Illumination, who brought us the hit animated movie, Minions.

Gaming legacy remains intact

In 30 years of existence, the success of Mario remains intact with gamers. After appearing in more than 15 different consoles, Mario is still the star on the latest Nintendo console, the Switch. Released last October, the game Super Mario Odyssey has already sold more than 9 million copies. Phenomenal!

On the Nintendo side, this attempt to turn to cinema confirms that Nintendo is ready to explore new avenues: The Firm has already struck a deal with Universal Orlando Resort to create a theme park based on Nintendo game characters.

When will the new Mario movie be released?

For the moment, no other information has been revealed. No release date, no synopsis … Patience!
